Sunday

Edinburgh

We met a young couple at breakfast Saturday morning who had just been to Iceland, and had a nice chat with them comparing notes. We had also met at Craiglinnhe an older couple during breakfasts, and had run into them at a local restaurant one evening... he was a caricature of the old English gentleman, and we were quite taken with his classic manner and mannerisms. After breakfast, we bid adieu to our gracious hostess and drove down from the high country, to Culane House in the heart of Edinburgh. Culane House, right in the center of the city, was a far cry from our experience in the highlands, but perfectly situated for using the buses and seeing something of this historic city. The staff consisted of young folks of Indian descent, all bright, cheerful, and very helpful. We got checked in and then walked to a nearby pub, The Persevere, for some dinner.

Then on Sunday we had a leisurely day, a rainy day, and took the bus downtown late in the afternoon for some Fish & Chips, and had a look around in the city center.

The Sir Walter Scott Memorial in Edinburgh

Oh what a tangled web we weave,
When first we practice to deceive.

The iconic Sir Walter Scott Memorial

Jan climbed almost to the top...

And we took photos of one another...

Impressing poets and seagulls alike!

We got on the wrong bus going back to our B&B, but a very friendly lady had overheard our conversation with the not-so-friendly bus driver, and informed us that we were going the wrong way. But we made it back and took a walk around the city park across the street from our lodging. I had survived a day in the city!
