I guess Adare is considered to be a classy 'in' place to vacation in Ireland, but we found a very nicely wrought B&B right in the center of town for no more than we had been paying elsewhere. There was however more high-end lodging than we had been seeing, including an old, well-preserved palace where we had high tea one afternoon.
I was ready for a rest when we finally got checked into our B&B by the proprietor, Bridie. How Irish is that name?!! With one of Bridie's many stuffed dogs, no less!
On Friday, we took a touristic tour of an old Norman Castle. We walked back from the tour on our own, and had a look around at an old Friary. And rounded out the day with a big bowl of traditional Irish Stew at Pat Collins Pub. An image of Bill Clinton caught my eye while we were eating our stew. It was a photo and thank you letter to Pat Collins for logistical support when Clinton had visited the area as President.
I didn't really get around to any genealogy sleuthing, but one of my maternal ancestors from County Mayo was a woman by the name of Halloran. So I took a pic of these gravestones here, though the chance of being related is pretty slim considering that Halloran is a common name in Ireland.
